My new toy

Just a quick post as I've not blogged for quite a while.

I've bought a sewing machine. It's a Janome Memory Craft 4900. It's an extravagance but I have got it for a few reasons.

Firstly, I have had a hand injury. My right (dominant) hand is out of use. I have been extremely lucky that my hand has been saved. It is hoped that in time it will be of use and I am due some surgery soon. In the meantime, I am unable to draw or paint. This will enable me to still be creative.

I have become increasingly interested in mixed media using fabric and stitching so this is enabling me to embrace new possibilities and broaden my crafty skills.

Also, it is my 40th birthday on Monday so this is my gift to myself. I am so looking forward to trying out new things. Hopefully I'll be showing some of them here soon.

That is a biggie to lose the use of your hand. It sounds like it is your dominant hand too. Don't let that stop you from drawing though. It's good to learn to use the other hand. It's good to play with the sewing too! Hope you have a happy birthday in spite of your hand. Waiting to see what you make.

I wanted to leave this post addie for you earlier but couldn't remember where I saw it. Something like this would be a fun way to learn to use your machine and you can't make a mistake. Look here.
